Peekay, Burlington Township

There's a new African restaurant in Burlington County in a familiar location.

Peekay has opened in Burlington Township at the former Casamari.

The restaurant, which mainly serves Nigerian food, with plans to add other African cuisine, has opened at the long vacant Sunset Road location.

Ella Akinboye, the restaurant manager, says her mother Oluwakemi Akinboye is the owner. They previously were based in Carteret, Middlesex County, but moved to the Burlington Township area two years ago.

"So far, we have jollof rice. We have different types of stew with white rice. We have regular stew, casava leaf, we have fufu," Ella Akinboye said.

There are a variety of soups, including egusi (melon) soup and spinach soup. She said they have grilled fish that goes with plantain, fried yams, fried plantains mixed with gizzard, yam porridge and much more.

"We're not typically going to stay on the Nigerian side, that's why we made it an African restaurant," she added. "By summer, we want to incorporate Liberian food and also Ghanaian food."
